Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden title for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden title since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since spring of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.

However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first professional victory, took control to create a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a close third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
